Overview
At the heart of interactive media beats the pulse of input and output
operations. Media
is brought into existence and, in part, defined through this conduit.
Within this design I have attempted to capture a few fundamental elements of
modern
interactive media. The first is the aforementioned input-output pathway. In
the center of
this design is an iris. This lens represents both the camera used in media
development
as well as the eye that receives the interactive content.
Encompassing the iris is a subtle orbit that reaches towards the arrows in
the negative
space. This orbit serves as a mechanism to link the outer arrows to the
iris, resulting in
a connection of the media to its production and distribution channels. The
orbit also
reinforces the union of interactive media and new media technologies.
On either side of the symbol is a set of arrows pointing in opposite
directions. These
arrows represent the non-linear, user driven aspects of interactive media.
The media
is linked to its user not only through the eye, but also in how the user
controls the media.
The user is not limited to a specific point in time, but is able to freely
move about the media.
